New Trail Map Coming

We had a group of guys come to the park this weekend to begin remapping the trails here at GMP. Very soon, we will have an GPS-accurate map of all of the trails and detailed difficulty information for each trail. We will also provide the GPS file on the site for you to download into your GPS system.

A big thanks to Jake White for building our new trail map.

Just wanted to give a public “thanks” for the opportunity to help out here! Golden Mountain is a GREAT park! Map was needing an update. Many of the trails seem to have gotten a bit more difficult than when the previous map was made.
I’ve GPS’ed all but about 5 of the trails so the map is close. I’ll be making another trip up to the park in May to complete the GPS process then it’ll be some computer time cleaning things up and making the new map. Hopefully it will make it real easy for everybody to find their way around this great park!

Awesome. Do you think it will be ready by June 7th for the Toyota event? I would love to try it out! Thanks!

  3. Jake White says:

    It’s possible Ryan.
I think it’s looking more and more likely that my next trip up will be either the weekend of the 22nd or 29th of May. I could probably get the GPS file together by the 7th of June without too much trouble. Do you have a GPS and if so, what brand is it?

  4. John A Case says:

Jake, let me know which date you are going back. We didn’t make it back the next week-end after we were there. Was calling for bad weather , so we opted out.

  5. Ryan says:

I just planned on loading it into Google Earth and printing out a map with trails that I would really like to run highlighted. I might be able to load it on my Blackjack II, but I would have to look into that further.

The Knoxville Wrangler club plans on being there the weekend of June 5 & 6th. It would be fantastic if a .gpx file of the trails could be available for us. Is that possible?

  7. Jake White says:

I’m headed up this weekend to collect the last few trails (5-6 or so left) and yes, Chuck, I’ll likely have a .gpx file after this weekend.

  8. Ryan says:

I would be able to load it onto my phone if it were in .kml format.

  9. Jake White says:

Chuck, Sorry I didn’t have it together in time for y’alls ride. The map on the website now (the old one):
    http://www.goldenmountainpark.com/images/map-large.gif
…is sufficient for getting around the park for the most part but there are a few errors. Hopefully y’all got a copy of that version and were able to use it.
Ryan, send me an e-mail to cj8lvr at yahoo dot com and I’ll send you what I’ve got.
I’ll try to send you an e-mail too through your Prodigy Computer Service acct. since you may not see this since you won’t get a notification that I’ve replied.

What is the staus of the mapping? I would like to load it into my Garmin if available.

  11. Daniel says:

Indeed, if you have a GPX file you can publish, that would be interesting to have :)
